Zambezi Tiger Fishing

Let's challenge the legendary Tiger Fish on the mighty Zambezi

Join us on a magnificent island where you’ll have the opportunity to fish the majestic Zambezi and Chobe Rivers. The  Island is part of a network of islands in the Mambova Rapids, which sits beneath the Caprivi Strip, which links Zimbabwe, Zambia, Botswana, and Namibia.

Fishing the Zambezi is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. The Zambezi and Chobe Rivers, as well as the Kasai Channel, offer an incredible range of fishing opportunities for anglers of all skill levels. Fly fishing, spinning, trolling, and drift baiting are some of the fishing methods we offer (depending on the needs of our guests, fishing conditions, and the time of year).

The Tiger Fish

The African Tiger Fish is known as the fastest fresh-water fish in Africa. It is a fierce predator that can hunt birds and small animals.

The tiger fish, often known as the ‘striped water dog,’ is one of the most powerful kilogram-for-kilogram predators. Tiger fish attack from the side at up to 50km per hour, then turn around and swallow their bait headfirst. The tiger fish’s razor-sharp teeth allow them to bite through a lure, making them a thrilling fish to catch.  These predators often hunt in packs, and are known to put up a fight when it comes down to the fishing line.

Techniques for Tiger Fishing

The tiger fishing tackle (line, reel, rod, trace, and lures) varies depending on the type of fishing method  (spinning, drift baiting, trolling & fly fishing) you are going to use. To catch and boat the courageous tiger fish, the best fishing tackle available is required. Another essential tool needed, that is very important is steel traces.

Smaller boats are used to fish among the rapids

When we tend to fish on the boats we try to keep the group as small as possible so that you have more space on the boat. The preferred number are 2 guests per boat with a fishing guide.

We provide fishing tackle (excluding fly fishing tackle) that is ideal for catching all of these fish, including the fearless tiger fish. It is also allowed for guests to bring their own fishing equipment.

The Zambezi is home to the following fish species :

The vicious tiger fish

The Sharptooth Catfish

Bream

and more

Accommodation

The Lodge’s accommodations provide both comfort and spectacular views of the Mambova Rapids. The Lodge’s roomy safari tents sleep either 2 or 4 guests and are set on wooden decks. Each safari tent has a full bathroom and can accommodate two people in single or queen size beds. Our four sleepers, which can be configured as four singles or two doubles, are great for families or groups. All beds, linens, and towels are provided by the Island Lodge. There is plenty of clean drinking water. The resort features a main boma where you can spend the splendor of an African evening: dining under the stars while listening to the sounds of hooting owls and snorting hippo. The boma has a fully stocked bar as well as a dining area where visitors may dine beneath the stars while enjoying a bushveld dinner. In the winter, you may stay warm while waiting for the day’s fishing to begin. Relax in our communal area while admiring the Zambezi River’s beauty and peace. It’s a birdwatcher’s paradise, with the sound of birdsong filling the surrounding tree canopy and contributing to the relaxing atmosphere. Relax and order refreshments from our friendly Sekoma staff at the main bar, which is located in the communal area that spans out over the mighty Zambezi.
