Wine Tasting Holiday - Geo Africa Tours

Wine Tasting

South Africa is the 8th biggest wine producer in the world.

South African wines offer impressively good value, and feature styles and tastes that are food friendly, blending elegance and power…. At one time, the sweet wine of Constantia was the most prized in the world.

The most important South African wine regions are around the two cities of Stellenbosch and Paarl.

The route you will follow amongst the coast is breathtaking. When on your wine tour you will mostly follow the Garden Route. South Africa’s Garden Route meanders east from Cape Town, past Stellenbosch and down the coast to Plettenberg Bay and Storms River. This stretch of the continent has it all, from rolling vineyards to wild mountains, dense forests to bushland, and from sandy beaches to dramatic coastal cliffs.

Safari Tours

South Africa boasts a huge collection of wildlife regions and game parks; both public and private. Part of the magic of South Africa is that, as a country, it encompasses every possible landscape – from deserts to forests to mountains to coast. And each of these landscapes is home to its own variety of wildlife and birdlife species. So, the game reserves and national parks of the country reflect the same variety in their fauna and flora.

South Africa is the proud home of no fewer than 20 national parks. This includes two of the world’s most famous wildlife reserves, the Kruger National Park and Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park. In addition, there are numerous private game reserves that have massive biodiversity and world-class safari opportunities. A South African safari is high on the bucket lists of many travellers and promises endless memories and adventure.

Africa’s Big 5 can be found at many of these parks and reserves and are always particularly special to see in their natural environments. The Big 5 is made up of the leopard, lion, buffalo, elephant and rhinoceros. Of course, these impressive animals share their habitats with thousands of other fantastic species; including giraffe, kudu, hippopotamus, cheetah, zebra, ostrich, wildebeest, bushpig, and many more.

Garden Route Holiday - Geo Africa Tours

Garden Route

The Garden Route is a 300-kilometre stretch that includes one of the most beautiful streches on the south-eastern coast of South Africa which extends four hours outside Cape Town from Witsand in the Western Cape to the border of Tsitsikamma Storms River in the Eastern Cape. It includes towns such as Knysna, Plettenberg Bay, Mossel Bay, Great Brak River, Little Brak River, Wilderness, Sedgefield and Nature’s Valley; with George, the Garden Route’s largest city and main administrative centre.

The name comes from the verdant and ecologically diverse vegetation encountered here and the numerous estuaries and lakes dotted with mountains crowd close to a shoreline with beaches and bays, and vividly coloured wild flowers delight the eye. The Route moves between the aforementioned mountains and the Indian Ocean, with mountain passes, including the Outeniqua Pass, linking the area with the arid Little Karoo. The Outeniqua and Tsitsikamma indigenous forests are a unique mixture of Cape Fynbos and Temperate Forest and offer hiking trails and eco-tourism activities. Nearly 300 species of birdlife are to be found in a variety of habitats ranging from fynbos to forest to wetlands.

The Garden Route one of the most popular holiday destinations for its effortless combination of ancient forests, rivers, wetlands, pristine stretches of beach, lakes, mountains and fynbos . Also teeming with wildlife, amazing reserves and a variety of wonderful lodges to choose from, the Garden Route can be the ideal safari destination for you and your family.

In 2017 the Garden Route was added to UNESCO’s World Network of Biosphere Reserves

CAPE TOWN

Discovery Cape Town

There’s no place like Cape Town for the sheer number of varied experiences and adventures to be had. Cape Town is appreciated and admired not only for its natural beauty, but also for its rich heritage and cultural gravitas. And the fact that it’s considered one of the top culinary destinations in the world only enhances its appeal.

Set seductively between mountains and the sea, Cape Town flaunts its natural beauty with pride. Rising above the city, iconic Table Mountain provides the perfect plateau for panoramic views that stretch to the glittering Atlantic, botanical gardens beckon from its slopes, and the city’s long blonde beaches, backed by towering peaks, are some of South Africa’s best.

Bubbling beneath the surface is an irrepressible sense of adventure, and travelers can join in the fun with a range of outdoor activities, from hiking, biking, surfing, and paragliding to whale-watching trips and cage dives with great white sharks.

As the oldest European settlement in Africa, Cape Town has a rich and, at times, turbulent past. At Robben Island, history buffs can see where Nelson Mandela was incarcerated for 18 years. In the hinterland, elegant Stellenbosch is a Nirvana for foodies. Along the rugged coast, scenic drives slice into mountains that plunge to the sea, penguins waddle on pristine beaches, and Cape Point is part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site with one of the richest floral kingdoms in the world.

Penguin Tracking Holiday - Geo Africa Tours

Beach Safari

Turtle Tracking:

Maputoland or Northern KwaZulu Natal on the far North-eastern coast of South Africa offers some of the best turtle viewing in the world. In season you can see giant Leatherback and Loggerhead turtles nesting on pristine beaches. The turtle nesting activity takes place from November to March.

The leatherback turtle, Dermochelys coriacea is the largest of all living sea turtles and the largest reptile behind the crocodile.

Tours are a nocturnal beach walk or 4X4 safari. An evening turtle-tracking safari along Maputaland’s beaches, searching for marine leatherback and loggerhead turtles laying their eggs, or hatchlings emerging from the nest, isn’t your typical game viewing experience.

Penguine safari

The African penguin is only found on the south-western coast of Africa, living in colonies on between Namibia and Algoa Bay, near Port Elizabeth, South Africa. It is the only penguin species that breeds in Africa. The African penguin, also known as the Cape penguin or South African penguin, is a species of penguin confined to southern African waters. The most important penguin spots in South Africa are Dassen Island, St Croix Island, Robben Island, Bird Island, Dyer Island and Boulders beach.

Boulders Beach is one of the loveliest and easiest places to experience the penguins when visiting South Africa, what also amazes me is the work that the South African Government is doing to help the colony of penguins Boulders Bay is approximately a 40 minute drive from the very centre of Cape Town. The penguins are actually best viewed from Foxy Beach (only a 2 minute walk from Boulders). So after a little rest and recuperation on Boulders Beach, head straight across the designated pathways to Foxy Beach
